Most of our clients agree that garage doors should be painted siding color while the trim around the doors are painted to match the trim on the rest of the house.
Should garage door match trim or siding.
The answer to should your garage door match your front door is no.
The majority of homes we paint garage doors are painted body color.
However there are exceptions to that rule.
A good idea is to go with a lighter color or match the color to the house and paint the frame and or trim the same color as your window trim.
As for the garage the rule of thumb i know try to adhere to is you either match the color or match the materials or both.
Matching the stone is a nice option too as long as it doesn t contrast with the siding color too much which could in turn compete with the front door for your attention when you look at the house.
Instead remember that your garage door takes up a lot of surface space especially if it s a double door that s 16 feet wide and shouldn t be too distracting.
You re better off trying to match your garage door color with the shutters or the trim.
Considering most garage doors are not exactly what we would consider a unique feature of your home.
As a general rule especially if your garage faces the front of your house you ll want your front door and garage door to be the same color.
If your front door is a bright color like red or yellow or turquoise you might find the same color overwhelming when applied to the expanse of a garage door.
